Acer species - Sycamore and Maples
Acer pseudoplatanus, Sycamore, is a very common tree with blunt-lobed, toothed leaves. If you cut the leaf stalk, the cut end does not produce latex, unlike Acer platanoides or Acer campestre. The flowers come with the leaves and hang down. The propeller-like wings of the fruit of this sycamore are angled more acutely than the horizontal wings of both of Acer platanoides and Acer campestre.
Acer platanoides, Norway Maple, has erect flowers appearing before the leaves which have sharply-pointed lobes.
Acer campestre, Field Maple, has smaller blunt-lobed leaves.
