Tussilago farfara - Colt's-foot

This is a distinctive bright flowers appear in February / March before the leaves. Stems are stout and covered with leafy scales, often purplish initially. Flowers bright pale yellow with narrow ligules. Leaves large lobed, deeply cordate white below with shallow lobes and distal teeth. The leaves allow it to be identified for most of the year. Sometimes the leaves can be confused with Butterbur. It grows on hedgerows and disturbed ground often around houses.
