Sanicula europaea - Sanicle
This is an indicator of a promising woodland and is always nice to find,
Perennial from a stout stock 20-60cm.Leaves are 2 – 6cm across mid to dark green to blue-green and slightly shiny. Basal leaves are 5-palmately lobed and each lobe has 3 lobes and are serrate with the points ending in a short bristle. Basal leaves are on a long petiole and the stem leaves, if present are smaller and ±sessile. Small umbels of 3-6 flowers 5mm across. Flowers white or pinkish, fruit 3mm, ovoid, covered in hooked bristles.
