Oenanthe - Water Drop-worts
Tall, to 1.5m with 1cm at base, grooved and hollow stem. Lower leaves glossy, dark green 3(4)-pinnate with ovoid segments, lobed or toothed with ±cuneate base. Sheathing petioles. Umbels are terminal (not leaf-opposed), bracts ~5 linear or three lobed, bracteoles > 6. Rays 12-40 and shorter than the peduncles. Rays do not thicken after flowering. Flowers white with conspicuous sepals and purple / dark anthers. Fruit cylindrical, ovoid 4-5.5mm with style about half as long as the fruit. Wet places, calcifuge. Poisonous
