Torilis japonica - Upright Hedge-parsley
This is a slender, hairy and stiff umbellifer which flowers from the mid-summer.
Erect to 1.25m with solid, striate stem with closely appressed and deflexed bristles. Leaves 1-3-pinnate with lobes 1-3cm, ovate and coarsely serrated to pinnatifid with bristles on both surfaces. Petiole also has appressed bristles and is slender. Umbels of 4-6 unequal rays also with appressed hairs. Bracts 4-6, linear and bracteoles, both hispid. Flowers pinkish / purplish-white. Sepals acute and persistent. Fruits 3-3.5mm ovoid with large forward curved but un-hooked spines.
